Body Love Routine | Self-Care Series

This is a routine I’ve been excited to write about. Your body is literally the reason you can wake up every morning and hug your family, go to work/school, workout, and so much more. Whether you like the shape of your it or not, you have to give it credit for being able to do so many amazing things. Even when you’re not thinking about it, your body is constantly working! Today I’m going to show you a self-care routine to take care of your body, inside and out, to show it some much-needed love.

Push your thoughts on what your body looks like to the back of your mind and instead focus on what it does for you.

What You Need:

  1. your beautiful body
  2. some healthy foods
  3. your workout gear
  4. a body exfoliator like a sugar scrub
  5. body butter or moisturizer

Step One: Get Your Sweat On

A great way to love your body from the inside out is to sweat. Your body needs to move, it needs to be active. Believe it or not, exercise is a basic human need. Our muscles would deteriorate if we just sat around all day and we don’t want that. I like to lay out everything I need for a morning workout the night before. That means, rolling out my yoga mat, putting out shorts and a sports bra, and even putting together a playlist of workout vids on YouTube. When I wake up the next day morning everything is ready for me and there are no excuses. So get in a workout and your body will thank you for it. Don’t forget to HYDRATE!!

Step Two: Nourish Your Body

I always feel light, energized and healthy after I do a juice fast. I’m not much of a hippy-chick and I don’t believe juices are magic or the answer to everything but I do love a good juice fast every once in a while. The results are always amazing. I only ever do 3 days maximum as more than that just isn’t good for my body. I use JUSByJulie because you can make your own selection of juices and can choose the day you want them to arrive. It’s also f*cking delicious, unlike some other brands (the Matcha Chia flavour is my fav).

After 3 days, you’ll feel less bloated, lose some of the water weight you might’ve been carrying, feel energized, and feel happier. Any longer than that without food and I get grumpy and feel deprived. Actually, when I do a juice fast I also eat soups too…and a little secret: mixing the soups with the juices for a cleanse plan is actually cheaper than just straight juices. I want to protect my body and nourish it, not starve it, so I always get soups too. I recommend the JUSByJulie 3-day Juice and Soup Plan. That’s the one I go with about once a year just to give my body a little pick-me-up. Also, as a coffee lover, I’m pretty pumped about their new Probiotic-Infused Coffee.  I haven’t tried it yet so I can’t give a review but I threw in the link if you want to try it for yourself.

Step Three: Care For Your Skin

Your skin covers your whole body. It’s such a huge part of you so why wouldn’t you take care of it? I love using a sugar scrub over my whole body about once a week. I often do this on a Sunday when I also do a face mask or hair mask as part of my normal self-care routine. Using a scrub takes away all the dead skin cells that your body might be having a hard time shedding. My skin always feels soft and smooth after this, especially around my knees and elbows where the skin is rougher. I don’t have a brand to recommend because I honestly think they all do the same. But if you’re curious, I use the Vanilla Chai Body Butter from The Body Shop because it’s cheap, and smells amazing. even though there are $100 body scrubs, it doesn’t mean they work any better than a $20 one. So save your money.

After you get out of the shower, moisturize with your favourite cream or moisturizer. For this, I go a little more expensive because while scrubs may all be essentially the same, moisturizers are not. My skin gets very dry and flaky and it’s also sometimes sensitive so I use Biotherm. I got samples of it forever ago and haven’t changed my routine since. It’s also Biotechnology-based cosmetic science so I think that’s really cool.

Your skin is going to feel so fresh and clean after you get rid of all those dead skin cells. I really think that taking care of your skin, not just on your face, should be in everyone’s self-care routines.

Step Four: Rest and Restore

SLEEP! It’s so important! You need to be getting a good rest every single night because this is the time when your body repairs itself. Even when you’re resting, it’s hard at work getting you ready to live to the fullest for another day. The average adult needs 6-8 hours of sleep per night. Now, as a student, I know this isn’t always possible. But it’s a choice you make to watch that extra episode of Gilmore Girls on Netflix and it’s a choice you make to check Instagram one last time before you sleep. These things keep you awake so I challenge you to turn off your phone and other devices about an hour before you go to bed. You’ll notice you fall asleep faster and get a better quality sleep as well.

    1. Surprisingly, I never feel hungry when doing a juice fast. But that’s probably because I eat soups with it too haha.
